Reflections should be roughly 500 words in length and should present a specific and clear position. Reflections are due on the date listed. Failure to complete the reflection by the date listed will affect the student’s ability to meet the requirements of their contract.

Reflections should be written in edited, revised English, free from grammatical and writing errors. Students are also required to include at least two quotes from each reading referenced in the prompt. Students will be required to rewrite reflections not meeting these minimum standards. For students seeking an A, an advanced level of response is expected on these reflections. Reflections that are without clarity, direction, support, etc., will require serious revision in order to meet the conditions of the contract. Students will have 10 days after notice of a revision request to resubmit the revised assignment.

Prompt:

After reading Baym’s “Making new media make sense,” locate a (validated) news story about social media. Write a reflection paper about how new social media technologies/platforms/experiences are represented in the media. Use the Baym essay as a guide for the kind of analysis required by the prompt. Analyze whether you feel the claims made by the essay and the evidence presented are correct and/or sensationalized. Include at least two quotes from the Baym essay and a link and a quote from the selected news story.
